Tell the Difference Between an Authentic Noguchi Table and a Fake Instantly!

There are people out there who actually know the difference between an authentic Noguchi table versus an imitation. Then there are people, like me, who have no clue how to tell the two apart. I’m pretty sure that there are way more people like me, so this article will be very helpful and will save you from falling into a trap and ending up with a cheap piece of crap that you spent hundreds of dollars on. So thanks for taking a few minutes to learn how to spot an authentic Noguchi table because it will help you out and it will help stop one less person from selling a design that has been stolen and not worth one dollar.

To make it even simple, I have put together a list of the features that you need to pay attention to when you’re confirming whether or not you are looking at an authentic Noguchi table:

  1. The first thing to look for is the signature of Isamu Noguchi, which will be located in two places – the edge of the top of the table and his initials on a medallion underneath the base.
  2. This one is an easy one – if the table is not made of solid hardwood, it’s a fake. Also, look at the stain of the wood because the real tables are stained by hand and not some cheap spray that doesn’t hide scratches.
  3. Finally, if the glass is at least 3/4″ thick and squared off on the edges, you have nothing to worry about!

So there you have it, now you will be able to spot an authentic Noguchi table right away and you’ll be happy to know that in a few years your “vintage” table will have doubled and then tripled in re-sell value! Thanks again for taking the time to educate yourself on a subject that is very dear to me and important to the entire design industry!
