Galaxy S5 – Samsung's 2014 Flagship Phone

Samsung already has an entire lineup in the Galaxy S series. Strengthening its foothold further in the smartphone arena, the South Korean electronics giant is all set to release another smartphone titled Galaxy S5. It is expected to hit the shelves in mid-March. If the rumors are to be believed, it is likely that this time around Samsung replaces the plastic body with a metal one, packs a 2k resolution display, a retina scanner, 16 megapixel camera and a 64-bit processor. Here's a roundup of the rumors surrounding the Galaxy S5 smartphone.

1. Design and Construction:

The first rumor we've pulled concerns its design and construction. The Galaxy S5 will ship in two versions -a premium metal version priced at £ 660 and a cheaper plastic version available for £ 540. The pictures available via a patent application show that the next Samsung flagship will retain its characteristic rounded corners.

2. Screen and Display:

The screen and display is one area where Samsung fans could probably expect major changes. It is expected to pack a 5 inch or 5.25 inch screen featuring a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. At this screen size, the pixel density translates to 560ppi. Samsung has always used AMOLED technology for its smartphones. However, a leak suggests that the South Korean Conglomerate will replace AMOLED panels for an LCD panel to cut production costs. Another important rumor is the inclusion of a finger print scanner. The fingerprint sensor will be positioned under the 5 inch display.

3. Camera and Optics:

The predecessor Samsung S4 had a decent 13MP camera on board. The first rumor about S5's imaging prowess states that like the S4 it will feature a 13MP rear facing camera however; It will be an improved module with superior anti-shake image stabilization. The recent update claimed that Samsung will likely scale it up to a whopping 16MP with hardware-based Optical Image Stabilization.

4. Operating System and Software:

As far as the software is concerned, we should see Android's latest 4.4 KitKat version. By now most of us are familiar with Samsung's Touch Wiz UI. The latest update shows a revamped home screen. It is between Google Now cards and Window's-esque tiles.

5. Hardware and Storage:

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 quad-core chipset clocked at 2.5 GHz along with an Adreno 330 CPU has been predicted for Samsung's S5. Apple has already launched a 64-bit A7 processor with the iPhone 5S. Hence, it was soon corrected that the S5 will either be powered by Samsung's own octo-core processor Exynos 6 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 805. It was further speculated that the plastic version will stuff a Snapdragon processor while the premium metal version will be powered by Exynos . 4GB of RAM is great for multitasking and all your storage needs.

6. Battery Life:

A smartphone becomes a handy device only if its battery life is good to see you through a day of heavy use. A report states that Samsung's S5 will get a faster-charging, longer lasting 2900mAh.

The rumors so far paint an impressive picture of what Samsung's Galaxy S5 would likely be. The details are sketchy; so sketchy that we are even unsure of the date. The best we can do for now is watch out for a launch date and further updates on its features.
