NeoTouch S200 Featuring Windows Mobile 6.5

The Acer neoTouch S200(F1)– running on the fastest processor (1 GHz) and the latest operating system from Windows (Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional)– is one of the fastest PDA in India right now. Even though the phone runs on a 1 GHz processor, it doesn’t consume much power, due to its power saving technology. The F1 comes with a large 3.8-inch WVGA touchscreen, which gives crisp and sharp display. The neoTouch comes with a slate-like form factor it has a large screen and slim size (12 mm) and a very clean design.

On the top of the large touchscreen is the LED indicator, the earpiece and the proximity sensor. The phone lacks a secondary camera. At the bottom of the screen are four flat feather touch keys with haptic feedback — calling, home, back, and call end. The chrome finish running around the edges gives a bold look to the device. On the left is the power/standby key. The bottom has a mini USB port for syncing and charging. On the right is the volume rocker, a small reset hole and camera key. The 3.5 mm audio port is on the top.

The back cover has a glossy finish but is a fingerprint magnet. The back panel has the 5.0-megapixel camera with LED flash and the loudspeaker grill. Inside the back cover are the battery, SIM card and a memory card slots. The neoTouch comes with the latest Acer UI 3.0. This UI has masked the original Windows interface giving it a smooth feel.

The F1 is bundled with Microsoft Office version 6.5. The complete office suite includes Excel Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile, Word Mobile and One Note Mobile. Files can be saved in di fferent formats like plain text, word document, word template, rich text format and docx format. You can open, edit and create documents. The screen touch QWERTY is smooth and sensitive and even though the stylus is provided it is hardly required unless you have huge fingers. On the downside, the phone does not have a PDF viewer pre-installed. Setting up and using E-mail on the phone was quick and easy. On the other hand we had to callibrate the device twice to get the right touch response. Once done, the phone worked smoothly.

The Acer neoTouch S200 is a 3G phone, which comes with Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE and Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP. FM radio comes with RDS. Wi-Fi has dual channel support — 802.11b/g, which gives decent speed and a great performance. Browsing moves to a higher level with the F1 with good browsing speed. For GPS, the device comes with Google Maps which are accurate just like all the other such apps from Google. The inbuilt app — Join latitude – tells your friends where you are on the maps once you sign into the app using your Gmail account. The F1 has pre-loaded apps like e-blogger, Flickr, YouTube and Facebook apps for interesting and lively connectivity.

Overall, the neoTouch is a very decent phone, which comes with a 5.0-megapixel camera and 3G but lacks video conferencing. The rest of the features are high on our most wanted list.
